Self-taught artist Marabeth Quin has been working in the arts in Nashville, TN for the last 30 years. Originally from Arkansas, it was music that brought her to Nashville as a professional vocalist in 1987, and in 2007 she expanded her hobby of painting into a career path when she began selling her colorful works of art.
Regardless of the subject matter, when Marabeth paints, it is an exercise of letting go to her--a sort of meditative process in which she notices the impulse to control, to dictate, to have an agenda. These cues gently redirect her thoughts and aims to that of simply loving and honoring the work. Painting has always been a teacher to her, and that life instruction continues to be one of it's most alluring qualities.
“Since my childhood, the beauty of nature has always been deeply moving to me. I am happiest when I am enveloped in a natural setting, and am endlessly fascinated by nature’s ability to lift a heavy heart, clear a burdened mind or put what appears to be a complex problem into the clear focus of an solution. Observing the way light moves through clouds or dances on the surface of water, or how a garden of flowers is both chaos and complete order at the same time is a form of meditation for me. Whether I am painting nature or expressing themes from my life as a mother, sister, wife and friend, it is this expansive space that inspires me to employ color, texture and form to convey the magical and transformative qualities that are so plentiful in our world.”
