MY COMMISSION PROCESS
I’ve worked out a commission process over the years that works really well and ensures that you get a painting you’ll love while I stay within my current work style. Throughout the process at several points, I may check in with you to verify that I’m heading in a direction that works for you; this helps me course-correct along the way.
Here is what you can do to prepare for the process and get all the information you need to decide if you want to continue.
To Get Started:
Determine your Budget (making sure it includes shipping and any framing costs you may require)
Determine the Size you’re wanting and if that size will work within your budget (some example prices are listed below)
Determine your Subject Matter (landscape, botanical)
Determine Preferred Medium—since I do everything from straight up paint, to a mixture with collage, to full collage, I need this info to get you an accurate price and time frame because they all require slightly different prices and lengths of time. If you’re unsure, then seeing your 4-8 examples (mentioned below) will help me determine this, even if you don’t feel like you know that answer right now.
Determine Substrate and Framing–do you have a preference of paper v. canvas? And are you wanting framing to be included or do you want to handle that on your end?
Send Me your Shipping Address (this helps me find out what shipping will likely be so we can stay within your budget from the start—depending on size and medium, we may ship the whole painting, or I may paint straight to canvas and send it to a framer near you rolled in a tube so they can stretch it onto stretcher bars and then you can pick up locally when ready. Sometimes this is cheaper and safer for the painting.
Send Me 4-8 Examples of paintings I have done that you love (you can just screenshot from my website or instagram)—this helps me to understand what you’re looking for in terms of style, color, etc. If you would like, we can also have a zoom call to talk a bit about it so I can make sure I’ve heard you describe what you’re looking for.
Determine Preferred Timeline—When you were hoping this can be completed? Is there a deadline or can we take our time?
General Pricing Reference:
The pricing for my paintings is determined by size and materials typically. These are prices for the paintings/materials and does not include any other costs like shipping, framing, etc. To give you a general idea, the prices for my mixed media collage paintings at a few different sizes are as follows (although there are many different sizes to choose from, this just gives an idea from lower to higher. When you have determined the size you’d like, I can give you a firmer price):
11x14 $340
18x24 $775
24x30 $1290
36x36 $1800
36x48 $2420
My Painting Prices Include:
Materials used
The painting itself
Hanging apparatus (wiring on the back so it can go straight on the wall, unless it is a work on paper. With paper pieces, sometimes it will have matting included. Please inquire if this is possible at the time of commissioning.)
Framing, if we have pre-determined that will be included and factored it into the price. In some cases of larger paintings, I may include a floater frame with the painting, so inquire if that is something you’re wanting.
What to Expect:
If I am doing a painting for you because you’re wanting a different size of one of my existing paintings, or that painting is sold, please know that I’m not able to duplicate anything I’ve done in the past. My paintings are layered and much of it is spontaneous, so duplicating is impossible. But I do like to have references to guide me; the answers to the questions above do that. What your exact painting will look like is as much of a mystery to me as it is to you, but when we have all these details, at least we can ensure it will end up within certain parameters.
When you have a good idea about these answers, then I can tell you concrete things like what size you can get within that budget (if it’s different than what you wanted) as well as a time frame, etc.
Let me know if you’d like to start the ball rolling on the process. If you’d like me to send you a form via email to plug in all these answers, I can do that. You can send this info to me via email, but if you’d rather meet via Zoom and talk about it, I can take my own notes.
Thanks again for inquiring about my work. I look forward to working with you.
